Our Logo: Passion

The meaning behind Apprenticeship, Passion, Foundation, and Cooking.

The fire symbol on our logo represents 'Passion.' Like fire, passion is an energy that is versatile and limitless with potential. It is a fuel that motivates people, drives them through obstacles, and guides them towards their true desires. With this potential, it creates and destroys. Skyscrapers have been built with passion, in the very cities that have been demolished by passion. It can paint timeless masterpieces, and write speeches that drives nations into war. In the end, passion is like the horse to a chariot, while desire holds the reigns.

Your passion is one of the four symbols on our emblem because it is the essence to our organization and our purpose. Weekend Internship provides classes that can introduce you to any activity we can offer. These classes are meant to teach you the basics and get you started. However, our classes (our internship) are only one weekend long. What you accomplish and the intensity with which you continue this activity will be fueled entirely by your passion. Our purpose to society is to connect people to things they are passionate about, and to crush the barriers that separated them in the first place. It is our hopes that our interns (participants) will take classes for activities that they are truly passionate about. If we are able to do this, we firmly believe that our interns will continue this activity for the rest of their lives. They will be fueled by the strongest energy, and will thus be able to create wonderful and beautiful things.

"Nothing great in this world has been accomplished without passion."

Our Logo:

The meaning behind Apprenticeship, Passion, Foundation, and Cooking

During the growth of the Roman Empire, it became a tradition for each Roman legion to carry a standard, the top of which would be a small carved statue of an eagle. The eagle was extremely important to the military, it gave soldiers hope and pride. It led thousands into battle, and its loss usually preceded defeat. Soldiers would die zealously defending the eagle, and generals would hide them under their own cloaks in times of danger. The eagle grew beyond simply representing a particular legion. It became a gleaming symbol of home to the soldiers fighting thousands of miles away from Rome, in an unfamiliar and ominous land.

Weekend Internship is no army, but we, too, have a standard. It represents who we are, where we started, and what we hope to achieve. However, we don't have gold. We just have an illustrated symbol--our logo.

On our logo, there are four images: A Hammer and a Chisel, Fire, a Brick Foundation, and a Fork and Knife.

The Hammer and Chisel is meant to represent the origins and idea of an 'Apprenticeship.' Made popular in the Medieval Ages in workshop guilds, an apprenticeship describes a relationship between a master and a student. However, unlike the teacher-student relationship we have today, a master and an apprentice describes a more hands on and personal learning experience. For years, apprentices would learn, help, and follow their masters, using the same tools and materials. When apprentices have been taught all that the master knows, apprentices become masters themselves, and usually move on to start their own shop or store. Using the foundations they learned during their apprenticeship, they expand on what they have learned. They add their own desires and personality to their work, and eventually, they get their own apprentices, to whom they will teach all that they know. From there, their apprentices will expand even further on what they have learned, and so on.

The idea of an apprenticeship represents what Weekend Internship is, and describes the kind of learning environment this organization is trying to build. All of our free introductory classes are hands on and are in small group settings. As an intern (a modern equivalent to an apprentice), you will have direct interactions with your tutors, who are masters of their field. You will learn not only the basics, but also tips that are specific to you and your tutor. With this hands on and personal learning experience, we hope that you will learn enough to get you started. From there you can expand even further on what you have learned, in a way that suits your tastes, your personality, and your dreams.

Check in tomorrow, for an explanation of 'Fire'!

Welcome to Weekend Internship's Blog!

Weekend Internships is an organization dedicated to getting people started on pursuing passions and dreams they have always neglected, and connecting them to companies that can help them achieve those passions and dreams.

We fulfill this promise by hosting weekend long conventions where registered participants can take free introductory classes on any activity that we can offer through business sponsors. These classes are meant to give each participant an internship/apprenticeship experience that will teach them fundamentals and get them started on their own, all in one weekend.

The success and sustainability of this organization’s purpose is almost entirely dependent on the ideas of autonomy, mastery, and personal motivation. Thus we try to reserve registration spots for these classes for people who are genuinely and intrinsically passionate about this hobby or activity, for they will be the most likely to continue this activity after the event is over. And though this convention is open to everyone, we also try to target people who have already established their lives in something else, and are at in points in their lives where picking up another activity they are passionate about is harder.

This blog will update you on all that is happening with Weekend Internship and will give valuable information on how this organization works. For upcoming events, it will also contain details on activities that are available, locations of ticket distribution, and procedural instructions.
